The Hon Minister of Higher Education Eng. Dr. Brian Mushimba, MP today 3rd November 2020 launched the Online Bursary Application System. The Minister in his opening remarks was happy and proud to note that the new system was developed in- house by the Ministry of Higher Education staff. He further noted that this was a huge milestone that the Ministry has achieved to promote equitable access for all, encouraging transparency to access funded education.
The Government through the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) introduced the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TEVET) Bursary Scheme in 2002 with the objective to provide support to vulnerable and meritorious students in meeting most of their training fees. This scheme is managed by the Department of Vocational Education and training (DEVT) on behalf of the Ministry. The Department since inception has been using a manual process to manage the TEVET Bursary which has proven to be expensive and time consuming. It is against this background that the Ministry developed the Online Bursary Application system.
In his remarks, the Minister stipulated that the online system has numerous benefits not only to the Ministry but to the applicants as well who can be checking the status of their applications online without having to come to the Ministry. The system will be contributing to making MOHE a smart and valued centered Ministry contributing to its vision. The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. Kayula Siame- Permanent Secretary of the MOHE, Mrs. Mirriam Chiyaba – Director and CEO of ZAQA, Professor Stephen Simukanga – Director General – Higher Education Authority (HEA), Mr. Cleophas Takaiza – Director General –TEVETA, Mr. Alex Simumba – Director TEVET.
